More Details
4Cats Arts Studio was founded in 2005 when founder and CEO Joey Simon began offering 4Cats classes out of the basement of a beautiful old character home in Victoria on Vancouver Island BC, Canada. What started as a way to try and educate a their prematurely born child in a non-conventional manner, the 4Cats Arts Studio rapidly spread among the child’s friends and family, and within no time, Joey Simon and his wife were being asked to offer workshops for other children, and 4Cats came to fruition. Inspired by the name of the café in Barcelona, Spain, where legendary artist Pablo Picasso frequented, 4Cats Art Studio is located in different parts of the world today, from Mexico, to Australia, to USA, and, of course, our own home sweet home, Canada.
4Cats kids create imaginative works using professional quality art materials. Kids get to work in a variety of mediums, taking inspiration from the works of famous artists. If the concerned artist of focus is Andy Warhol, the children use a silk screen and make ink blot paintings. If it’s Picasso, they create acrylic on canvas cubist paintings and ceramics; if it’s Frida Kahlo, they make paper-mache and paint acrylic on canvas self-portraits, and so on.
The Octacollective society, which 4cats Langford owner Gaylia is proud to be a part of, raises funds through grants, donors, sponsors and fundraising events to deliver art workshops in Capital Region elementary schools identified as having a high population of children from low income families. In their artsREACH workshops, the children participate in painting, printmaking, theatre, dance or video workshops taught by professional artists, actors, dancers and filmmakers hired and trained to teach creative techniques and skills in a positive and encouraging learning environment. With this Island Daily Deal, you can provide a great experience for your child and help underpriviledged children learn through expressing creativity all in the same brush stroke!
Reviews
An ecstatic review from a schoolteacher:
“I took my 2nd grade class here for a field trip. We chose the Vincent Van Gogh lesson, in which two teachers gave a brief lesson about the artist, then guided us through an acrylic painting in the style of Van Gogh. The first great aspect was, since we all arrived in 4/5 separate cars, not all the kids got there at the same time SO they gave the first arrivals paper and colors to occupy them until we all got there! Brilliant! The next useful facet was that the teachers did not just release to the kids to do their projects willy-nilly. I fully appreciated the classroom management that was demonstrated by both facilitators, which was a key component in being able to complete the project in a timely manner. Lastly, we all ended up with a canvas (canvas!) project that will be a keepsake for all my students for years to come! Highly recommended for cleanliness of facility, expertise of staff, and quality of final product! Now I can't wait to take a class there so that I can have my own canvas to take home!”
